Anjana is an accomplished singer proficient in multiple genres. She is a trained Indian classical Carnatic vocalist, a Western Classical Coloratura Soprano & a Pop singer. She enjoys exploring the diverse spaces between genres & cultures through her compositions & singing.    

Global Sai Symphony concert series

She was invited to be the Principal Carnatic and Western Vocal Soloist in the ‘Sai Symphony’ concert Composed by world renowned Jazz pianist and founder of Global Music Orchestra - Mike Herting from Germany, and Conducted by Michael Köhler with the Wuppertal Symphony Orchestra at the prestigious Historische Wuppertal Stadthalle, Wuppertal, Germany. The very same concert was staged at Nehru Stadium in India, and in China with the Shanxi Symphony Orchestra and Central conservatory of music, Beijing and Taiyuan. She shared the stage with the iconic Karaikudi Mani accompanying her on the Mridangam along with artists Flute exponent Shashank Subramanyam, Grammy award winning slide guitarist Debaashish Bhattacharya, Sai Shravanam, Amrit Natraj, Heiner Wiberny, Cheick Lebiadh.

Concert with the Arko Chamber Orchestra, Skopje, Macedonia

In October 2018, Anjana was invited by the Macedonian Ministry of Arts and Culture to be a Principal Soloist in a Pop and Film Music Orchestral Concert in collaboration with ‘Arko Chamber Orchestra’ conducted by Erhan Shukri in Skopje, Macedonia. She arranged & perfomed a Musical Theatre piece, a Semi-Indian Classical Bollywood song & an Italian Aria.

Multicultural Music concerts, Chennai, India

In November 2019, she Composed, Arranged, Conducted and Performed as a Soloist in the  'World of Music' concert by Madras Musical Association along with Mr. Augustine Paul, Vedanth Bharadwaj, Ebenezer Arunkumar. The concert took place in her hometown Chennai, India & it was a true melting pot of several genres and showcased the versatility across genres which Anjana has come to be known for. She is one of the most distinguished Coloratura Sopranos of India & she has performed in Opera concert nights as a part of 'Chromatics' at the Egmore Museum Theater, Goethe Institut Chennai, Alliance Francaise Chennai etc. Recently in Sept 2023, she performed at the ’Textures of Traditions’ cultural fest hosted by Dr. Swarnamalya Ganesh along with the Classical Guitarist Matt Bacon. She performed her indie compositions in an intimate Acoustic setting with Socially relevant subjects and themes.

Indopolish Cross-cultural collaboration

In Sept 2023 she co-curated & performed as a Principal Soloist, Composer & Orchestrator in a cross-cultural concert series at the Klodzko Cultural Center, Poland in collaboration with the Concerto Glacensis Klodzko Choir and accomplished Artists from all over Poland. The first concert of the series featured several of her original multicultural compositions, which mindfully melded several genres like Indian classical music, Polish folk & western orchestral music. In the second concert of the series, she performed as a Western classical soprano soloist in Vivaldi’s famous “Gloria”. In the third concert, she performed as a Soloist and a chorister along with the Madras Musical Association & Concerto Glacensis Choirs. 

Indian Film Music

She rendered & produced the music of 'Nesam Maruma/Sneham Maruna', India's first Playback Opera Aria, a re-adaptation of Puccini's famous aria 'Nessun Dorma'. As a playback singer, she is known for her multi-genre work in the Tamil & Telugu film industries. She sang the Tamil & Telugu pop song ‘Yaar nee/Evar Nuvvu’ for the bilingual Indian film ‘Kolai’. She also rendered a semi classical indian melody song “Neeku Gnapakam” for the Telugu film Hathya. She arranged & sang for the tamil film “Ethirvinaiyaartru” along with Vedanth Bharadwaj & Sharanya Gopinath. She sang the Tamil song “O Variya” along with Syan Saheer in the Tamil film “Iruttu”.

Rakthi - An exploration of Pleasure

As a Composer & Principal Vocalist, she is ideating & performing along with the reknowned Indian Classical Dancer, Performance Historian & Actor Dr. Swarnamalya Ganesh at the Serendipity Arts Festival in Goa on 20th December, 2023. In this project, she is exploring the realm of evoking sensations of pleasure through Music & Sound. She is bringing together in her compositions the genres of Turkish & Arabic music along with Carnatic, Hindustani, Marathi Folk, Western Classical Music. She is writing music for the Arabic instruments Oud & Kemence, Indian Carnatic Classical Percussion instruments Mridangam & Dholak & Indian Hindustani Classical Melodic instrument Harmonium. 

Music Directorial & Multicultural Music Composer

Cross cultural collaborations is a space where she feels the most at home. She Co-Ideated, Composed & performed as a Principal soloist in the Indopolish Multicultural Music concert series in Sept 2023 in Klodzko, Poland. She is the first composer in the history of India & Poland to write cross cultural Indopolish music. Her compositions & performance saw great success amongst the Government of Poland & the Audience. The concert also featured several acclaimed traditional Polish artists from all around Europe. As a Music Director & Orchestrator, she worked with Sarod Exponents Ustad Amjad Ali Khan & Ayan Ali Bangash on the unique Devi Oratorio, which melds the world of Hindustani music with Western Classical sensibilities. She worked as an Orchestrator & Music Producer with Ms. Lalgudi Vijayalakshmi in her Carnatic & Western Cross cultural music project - Panchabhootham; the five Elements of the Earth Symphony Concert Series. She collaborated with the illustrious Carnatic Vocalist Aruna Sairam as a Vocal Producer and Supervisor.

Firdaus Orchestra & Studio by AR Rahman, Dubai

She works with the Firdaus Orchestra and Studio by A R Rahman in Dubai as a Music Producer, Orchestrator & Business Developer. She produced the music recordings for the Holiday concert, Marketing jingle for Aldar Properties, Ennio Morricone Tribute series - Cinema Paradiso & A Woman with a Harmonica. She actively creates hand shakes between Firdaus & various reputed Art organisations, enabling sustainable Business & enriching collaborations.

Milap Festival Trust, UK

She is the Composer and Ensemble Conductor for the ‘Sabrang’ vocal ensemble by the Milap Festival Trust, UK. She has presented musical workshop retreats with Milapfest in London & Liverpool and conducted performances by the ensemble at prestigious venues like the Queen Elizabeth Hall, Southbank Center.

Music Direction & Production in Indian Film Industry

She is currently working as a Music Director for a Tamil film titled 'Mayakoothu' & an independent English film titled 'Dreams of Fire', which are under production and due for commercial release in 2024. As a Composer, Music Director and Producer, she worked with Canadian Srilankan Tamil Filmmaker and Advocate Sathish Balasunderam on a Docu-series about the Lawyer and Academic Thiru Neelan Thiruchelvam. The Docuseries was screened privately in Canada. She is one of the most sought after Music Producer, Arranger/Orchestrator, Music Supervisor & Vocal Producer in the South Indian Film Industry - working in several films across the languages Tamil, Telugu & Kannada.

Sound & Recording Engineer, Creative supervisor for Thematic Dance Ballets

She worked with the eminent composer Rajkumar Bharathi & legendary Music producer Sai Shravanam on many thematic dance productions by Leela Samson, Priyadharshini Govind, Anita Guha, Urmila Satyanarayana, Asha Krishnakumar to name a few. Her keen ear for capturing the Sonic nuances of Indian Classical Melodic & Percussion instruments was immensely lauded by her counterparts.

Vocal Tutor & Mentor

With 15 years of experience as a Vocal tutor, Anjana has worked with students of diverse needs. Her pedagogy focuses on Voice culturing and skill development through deep dissection and understanding of various genres - Opera, Lieder, Italian Art songs, Carnatic, Ensemble vocal music, Western Pop & Musical theatre. She believes in vocalists discovering their unique selves and voices through exploration of music that impacts them. She creates an open and safe environment to consensually discuss mental health, lifestyle choices, culture, sensitivity, personality and behavioural traits - how these influence & mould the artist in every student. She has helped rehabilitate countless artists with Voice related issues from various styles of singing. She teaches online & in person from her Private Studio - Yazhiyam.

KM Music Conservatory by AR Rahman

She is a visiting faculty for Vocal Music at the KM Music Conservatory, Chennai. She has also offered paid internships in Music production, Orchestration and Session performance to several KMMC students. 

Inclusivity through Teaching & Mentoring

She teaches Trans* women in collaboration with the Born2Win Social Welfare Trust, Chennai, tutoring Trans* women in Carnatic Music, aiding in the betterment of their socioeconomic status and enrichment of their musical pursuits. She has worked with children with ADHD and Autism Spectrum Disorder, tutoring them in Western Classical and Pop vocal music.She has conducted workshops on the art of teaching for Teach for India fellows, School teachers etc.
